    Welcome to Basketball!

Basketball at LCS is generally offered to students in grades 6-8 who are interested in interscholastic competition. Preference given to 7th and 8th graders in years where large numbers of participants make it unmanageable. In those years we urge our 6th graders to participate in the PenBay YMCA 5th and 6th grade league.

Our teams compete in the Busline League which includes 20 schools in mid-coast Maine extending from Woolwich to Searsport. Athletes are expected to be available to practice and play five or six days per week throughout the regular season. The Busline League sponsors tournaments at the conclusion of the regular season in each sport. All teams are invited to participate in the tournaments and a champion is crowned. The league also promotes good sportsmanship by awarding banners to the schools who are recognized by their opponents to be outstanding representatives of their school and community.

Perfect Finish to a Perfect Season!
    Dec 19 2009

In a thrilling game, Lincolnville pulled out a one-point win over the Chargers of Jefferson to cap off an undefeated season. The Lynx led 11-4, 19-14 and 28-18 at the end of the first three breaks. However, Jefferson stormed back in the fourth to force the extra frame. In the overtime Jefferson jumped out to a quick four point lead, but the Lynx defense clamped down. Marissa Libby hit a runner in the lane and quick foul shot to cut the lead to one, then two free throws by Carrie Milner put the Lynx on top for good.

Leading the Lynx were Annie Young with 12 points; Marissa Libby, 10; Carrie Milner and Jaclyn Gilson, both four; Zoie Magri, three, and Grace Harrison and Hannah Bode, two each. The Lynx made 9-of-30 free throws (30 percent).

Young drilled two 3-pointers and scored nine points in the first half.

Other Lynx are Cheyenne Jones, Amanda Corey, Jordan Stephens and Breanna Bowman.

Leading Jefferson wee Marissa White tallied 10 points; Abby Farrin, nine; and Avery bond seven.

Other team members are Jordan Moore, Taylor Johnston, Alyssa Smith, Makayla Sprague, Morgan Achorn, Miranda Achorn, Megan Peabody, Kaleigh Beaucage, Cassie Reed, Helena Roberston, Hannah Hews, Julie Spinney, Samantha Burke and Cierra Danforth.

Lynx Down Wildcats to Advance to the Championship Game
    Dec 17 2009

The Lynx girls basketball team earned a berth in the Busline League Championship game scheduled for Friday night by defeating a very talented and scrappy Appleton team for the third time this season, Appleton's only losses on the year. From the tip-off to the final buzzer this was middle school girls basketball at it's very best. The fans who packed into Lynx Gymnasium spent most of the game on the edge of their seats to enjoy the back and forth action.

LCS struck first on a short jumper from Hannah Bode, and after an AVS free throw extended the lead to 9-1 before the Wildcats got on track and scored the next five points of the game. The Lynx were able to close the quarter with baskets by Jaclyn Gilson and Carrie Milner, giving them a 13-6 edge. Appleton pulled out all the stops in the second quarter as they dominated play with tight defense, but were unable to convert on easy baskets. Fortunately for the Lynx they survived the ordeal and went into the half leading 17-13, but in serious foul trouble.

The third quarter was a much different story for the top seeded Lynx. Determined to improve on a dismal effort in the previous eight minutes they came out of the locker room with a purpose, scoring on their first two possessions and clamping down on the visitors at the defensive end. Grace Harrison and Carrie Milner held the advantage on the boards and combined for eight of the team's fourteen third quarter points while the team held AVS to just two. The Lynx went into the fourth and final quarter with a comfortable 31-15 lead. Appleton made an effort to get back into the game, but in the end LCS was just too tough. The Wildcats went out with a bang as they scored the final five points of the game in the last fourteen seconds, but it was too little, too late. The final score was 36-22 Lynx.

Scoring for LCS were Hannah Bode 2, Annie Young 8, Jaclyn Gilson 2, Marissa Libby 6, Grace Harrison 7, Carrie Milner 9, and Zoie Magri 2.

The Lynx will play a 6:00 PM game Friday night for the championship at home against the southern division champ, Jefferson.

One Down as LCS Dumps Searsport
    Dec 15 2009

After receiving a first round bye, the Lynx girls jumped into playoff action against the Vikings of Searsport at home on Monday. In what has become a familiar scene in the Lynx Gym, the home team jumped out to a fast start that was fuelled by a stifling defense. Using full court man to man pressure the girls were able to create turnovers that they quickly turned into points. When the buzzer sounded after the first eight minutes the Lynx were in command, leading 18-2. Sensing the outcome early LCS generously pulled back the defense to half court and slowed the pace. By the half they led by a score of 26-4. The home team enjoyed ample playing time for all in the second half as they cruised to the finish line holding a 38-18 advantage. Scorers were: Cheyenne Jones 2, Hannah Bode 4, Annie Young 8, Jaclyn Gilson 4, Amanda Corey 2, Marissa Libby 6, Grace Harrison 10, Jordan Stephens 2, and Carrie Milner 6.

The Lynx advance to the Northern Division Finals and a match-up with the Wildcats of Appleton on Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 at LCS.

    Lynx Teams Split With Vinalhaven
    Dec 15 2009

The Lynx girls continued their winning ways with a tough 32-18 victory over the Vikings of Vinalhaven in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon in Lincolnville. LCS took a small early lead, but their failure to hit free throws cost them an opportunity to extend it as they missed five of six attempts including the front end of two one and one chances. Fortunately their defense was strong and they were able to hold the Vikings to just 2 points to finish the first quarter on top by a score of 11-2. Grace Harrison led the way with 6. The second quarter was much the same, Annie Young and Marissa Libby combined for all 10 or the Lynx points and the opponent was held to just 4, giving LCS a 21-6 halftime lead. Both teams played aggressive defense in the second half and traded baskets throughout, each scoring 6 in the third and 5 in the fourth. Scorers for LCS were: Annie Young 15, Marissa Libby 7, Grace Harrison 6, and Carrie Milner 4.

In a lopsided affair on the boys end, a very talented Vinalhaven team outscored LCS 87-27. The high flying affair featured a contrast of playing styles as the Vikings sat in a 2-3 zone and owned the glass, were able to perfect fast break basketball while the Lynx settled for long 3 pointers. The LCS lone bright spot was Brandon Benson who was able to drop 3 bombs over the defense accounting for all 9 of the first quarter points. For the Vikings, all ten players chipped in with points. Lincolnville got offense from Aithen Heald with 3, Colt Muir 3, Brandon Benson 12, Nate Williams 7, Alex Carver 2, and Jon Bryant 2.

    Boys Fall in Playoff Game
    Dec 15 2009

The Appleton Wildcats closed the door on the Lincolnville boy's basketball team Thursday with a convincing 65-26 playoff victory in Appleton. LCS had a difficult time getting any offense going in the tiny Appleton gym and could not match up on the boards with the much taller Wildcats who took full advantage of the situation, turning missed Lincolnville shots on one end into layups on the other. AVS went into the half with a 20 point lead and never looked back. Scoring for the Lynx were: Ben Rollins 2, Aithen Heald 5, Wyatt Parra 4, Colt Muir 7, John Haynes 4, and Note Williams 5. The Lynx finished the season with 2 wins and 9 losses.

Girls Sink Clippers to Finish Regular Season
    Dec 10 2009

If this were a writing assignment instead of a final regular season basketball game, the LCS girls would have needed to place an exclamation point at the end. Using a combination of defense and rebounding they were able to completely dominate a strong opponent on the road and solidify home court for the upcoming playoffs.

Playing in the confines of the Thomaston Grammar School is rarely an easy task, but the Lynx were able to feed off the intensity and generate opportunities. The first quarter seemed more like a wrestling match than a ball game as a total of 12 fouls were called, seven against Thomaston putting LCS in the bonus early. Lincolnville took a 12-4 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 29-18 at the half. The tempo of the game changed in the second half as the Lynx went into an aggressive 2-3 zone defense which successfully confused and stifled Thomaston who mustered a total of nine second half points. For LCS, Carrie Milner, Grace Harrison and friends were able to control the boards and generate easy scoring opportunities. Between Annie Young's 3 point shooting and Harrison's offensive put backs, the game was quickly out of reach. The final score was 57-27 Lynx. Scoring for LCS were: Hannah Bode 2, Annie Young 19, Amanda Corey 2, Grace Harrison 24, Carrie Milner 4, and Breanna Bowman 2.

The girls have an exhibition game at home Friday with Vinalhaven. They will host Searsport at 3:45 on Monday.

    Boys Fall to Thomaston
    Dec 10 2009

The Lynx boy's team dropped a game on the road in Thomaston Monday to a scrappy Thomaston Grammar School Clippers team by a score of 58-26. The Lynx came out hustling in the first quarter, but had difficulty putting the ball in the basket, as they were only able to convert on two field goals. Their six attempts at the charity stripe failed to produce any fruit. The result was a 14-4 quarter one deficit. It was good news, bad news in the second quarter as the boys were able to muster 10 points, but they gave up 22 to the Clippers who went into the half with a comfortable 36-14 lead. Coach MacDonaldÕs halftime chat about defense yielded results as the Lynx were successful at slowing the Clippers in both the third and fourth quarters, holding them to 10 points in each. Free throw woes continued in the second half for the Lynx as they were just 2-11, allowing TGS to extend the final score. Scoring for the Lynx were Ben Rollins with 5, Athen Heald 2, Wyatt Parra 2, Max Bryant 10, Brandon Benson 2, Nathan Williams4, and Jon Bryant 1. The boys travel to Appleton for a first round playoff game today at 3:45, then host Vinalhaven in a non-conference game this Friday, also at 3:45.

    LCS Teams Split with Appleton
    Nov 24 2009

The Lincolnville Central School basketball teams hosted the Wildcats of Appleton Village School last night in the Lynx Gymnasium for two exciting contests.

In the opener the Lynx girls looked to put distance between themselves and the Wildcats early. In the previous meeting the 'cats overcame a 20 point fourth quarter deficit to close the gap to 5 at the end outscoring the Lynx 23-8 in the final stanza. With that memory fresh in their minds the LCS girls sprinted out of the gate, using stifling defense to generate easy fast-break opportunities. At the end of the first 8 minutes the Lynx held a decisive 19-2 advantage. The second and third quarters were hard nosed affairs as both teams battled throughout every possession, and points came at a price. When the smoke cleared after three the Lynx stood atop a 32-14 advantage, refusing to give ground. Both teams seemed to sense the inevitability of the outcome and settled into a relaxed pace in the fourth. LCS again prevailed and finished the game leading by 20. Final score LCS 42, AVS 22. Scoring for the Lynx were Cheyenne Jones 4, Annie Young 7, Jaclyn Gilson 2, Amanda Corey 5, Marissa Libby 12, Grace Harrison 6, and Carrie Milner 6.

The nightcap was equally exciting as the Lynx held their own for most of the contest against a talented Wildcat team. Hot shooting allowed LCS to jump out to a 14-12 first quarter advantage with scoring from four players. AVS picked it up in the second, outscoring Lincolnville by 6 allowing them to go into the locker room with a 27-23 halftime lead. The Lynx gained a little ground in the third as they out dueled their opponent 9-8, but they were not able to keep up in the final quarter as the Wildcats pulled away ending the game with a 48-37 advantage. Scoring for the Lynx were Wyatt Parra 7, Colt Muir 2, Max Bryant 14, and Nate Williams 9.

The boys are off until Tuesday, December 1st at St. George, and the next girls game is December 7th at Thomaston.

    Hawks Claw Lynx
    Nov 23 2009

The LCS boys dropped a close game in the fourth quarter Friday night against the Hope Hawks. The boys started out strong with a 14 point first quarter that saw the visiting Hawks held to 6. The Lynx held a 20-12 halftime lead, but went 0-8 from the free throw line where they could have put some serious distance between themselves and their opponent. The Hawks came alive in the second half as they outscored LCS 26-15 sealing the victory with a 16 point fourth quarter. The final was 39-33 Hope. Scoring for LCS were: Ben Rollins 2, Wyatt Parra 6, Colt Muir 7, Max Bryant 8, Brandon Benson 2, and Nate Williams 8.

    Lynx Girls Extend Streak
    Nov 23 2009

The Lincolnville girls extended their win streak to 7 games as they defeated a much improved Hope team by a score of 35-12. Although the final outcome never seemed to be in doubt, Hope's zone defense kept the high scoring Lynx in check as they had difficulty getting their half court offense going. The girls were able to get enough easy baskets from their defense to put the necessary distance between themselves and the pesky Hawks to cruise to victory. For LCS Cheyenne Jones had 2, Hannah Bode 4, Annie Young 10, Marissa Libby 8, Grace Harrison 6, Carrie Milner 3, and Breanna Bowman 2.

    Boys Down Searsport
    Nov 18 2009

The Lynx boys got back on track last night thrashing Searsport by a score of 44-19. After a 10-2 first quarter led by Max Bryant (6 points), the Lynx let the visitors hang around as they were outscored 8-7 and had to settle for a 7 point lead at the half. A fiery halftime speech by coach Roman MacDonald seemed to do the trick as a motivated LCS team stormed out of the locker room and took control of the game. Pressure defense and high percentage shooting enabled the boys to take total control of the game resulting in a 14-1 edge in scoring. They added to the lead in the fourth, again outscoring Searsport 13-8 and finished the game on a high note. Scorers were: Ben Rollins 4, Wyatt Parra 4, Colt Muir 4, Max Bryant 17, AJ Silverton 2, Brandon Benson 9, and Nathan Williams 4. The next game for the boys is on Friday, November 20th against the Hope Hawks.

    LCS Girls Remain Unbeaten
    Nov 18 2009

The LCS girls team continued their winning ways last night shredding the Vikings of Searsport, 55-12. The Lynx defense again stifled their opponent, and generated turnovers that resulted in easy baskets. Five players scored in the first quarter and the lead stood at 16-4. This performance was duplicated in the second quarter as LCS scored 15 points and held the Vikings scoreless. With orders to focus on the left side of the floor, the girls worked to hone their skills in the second half. The half court offense was kicked into high gear as good ball movement generated opportunities through the back door and the Lynx capitalized on easy shots. After a making little fourth quarter side bet, Hannah Bode became an instant hero by draining a three point shot and winning a pizza party for the whole team courtesy of Coach Russo. Scoring for the girls were: Hannah Bode 5, Annie Young 23, Marissa Libby 6, Grace Harrison 10, Jordan Stephens 2, Carrie Milner 6, and Zoie Magri 3. The next game is on Friday, November 20th against the Hope Hawks.

    Girls Sink Clippers
    Nov 17 2009

Winning is becoming a habit for the LCS girls as they went four for four on the season by beating the Clippers of Thomaston Grammar School in another lopsided affair. Solid defense generated easy baskets from the beginning enabling the Lynx to cruise to a 15-4 first quarter advantage. LCS held a 33-12 lead at the half, and put the game completely out of reach in the third quarter outscoring TGS 18-4. When all was said and done each member of the home team was in the scoring column and the scoreboard read, Home 59 Visitors 20. Scoring for the Lynx were Cheyenne Jones 2, Hannah Bode 4, Annie Young 23, Jaclyn Gilson 2, Marissa Libby 10, Grace Harrison 10, Jordan Stephens 1, Carrie Milner 6. The next game is today at home with Searsport at 3:45 PM.

    Boys Drop to TGS
    Nov 17 2009

The Lynx boys had a rough outing last night against the unbeaten Clippers of Thomaston Grammar School dropping the contest by a score of 48-11. Thomaston dominated every aspect of the game, outscoring LCS in each of the four quarters. The leading scorer for LCS was Ben Rollins with 4 points, Max Bryant had 3, Wyatt Parra and Nate Williams each had 2. The Lynx play at home tonight against Searsport.

    Girls Survive in Appleton
    Nov 12 2009

The Lincolnville girls dodged a fourth quarter bullet in Appleton Tuesday night as poor shooting and a defensive breakdown allowed the pesky Appleton Wildcats 23 points in the final period, cutting what had been a 21 point lead down to 5. Although the Lynx were the victors in the end, the result is unsettling.

The Lynx took an early 19-13 lead in the first as their guards took advantage of good defense, scoring on a number of pressure related turnovers. With Carrie Milner and Grace Harrison dominating the boards, and continued hot shooting from Marissa Libby and Annie Young, they seemed to have blown the game open in the second, outscoring AVS 20-8, taking a 39-21 lead into the locker room. The third was a low scoring affair with the Lynx ahead by a 49-29 margin at the close, but in the fourth the Lynx reserves had difficulty handling the full court pressure of the AVS starters and committed several turnovers that led to easy baskets. Annie Young returned to the game for the final two minutes, scoring 5 of her 24 points and handled the ball for the Lynx allowing them to seal the win. The final score was 57-52. Scoring for LCS were: Annie Young 24, Jaclyn Gilson 4, Marissa Libby 21, Grace Harrison 6, Carrie Milner 8. The next game for the 3-0 Lynx is on Monday at home vs Thomaston at 3:45 PM.

    Boys Drop One in Appleton
    Nov 12 2009

The Lynx boys suffered their third straight defeat to a talented Appleton team who took full advantage of their home court. The boys fell behind early as AVS used their superior height to take control of the offensive boards and score easy. Poor free throw shooting by Appleton seemed to be the only thing keeping the Lynx in the game in the first half as the Wildcats shot a dismal two for thirteen from the charity stripe. The Lynx missed all eight of their attempts for the game. AVS outscored the Lynx in each quarter 13-6, 18-8, 16-6, and 10-4 respectively for a final score of 57-24. Scoring for LCS were Alex Copeland 2, Ben Rollins 4, Wyatt Parra 6, Max Bryant 10, and Brandon Benson 2. The next game is at 5:00 PM at home vs Thomaston,

    LCS Boys fall to Hope
    Nov 09 2009

A cold shooting first half led to a 29-11 deficit and a hole that the Lynx boys could not climb out of as the Hope Hawks bested LCS by a final score of 58-40. The Lynx were able to trade baskets in the second half, but it was too little, too late. Max Bryant led all scorers with a career high 25 points, Nathan Williams chipped in 7, Colt Muir had 6, and John Bryant 1. The Lynx Host St. George in their home opener on Monday November 9th at 3:45 PM.

    Lynx Girls Crush Hawks
    Nov 09 2009

Once again team defense and a balanced scoring attack resulted in a successful outcome as the Lincolnville girls defeated the Hope Hawks by a lopsided score of 47-4. The Lynx started slowly, scoring just 3 points in the first 4 minutes until they turned up the defensive intensity and ended the first quarter with a 13-0 edge. It was more of the same for the remaining 3 quarters as the Lynx switched defenses back and forth from a 3-2 match-up zone to an aggressive half court man to man, denying Hope easy baskets. The final result was never in doubt. Scoring for the Lynx were: Annie Young 10, Jaclyn Gilson 2, Marissa Libby 4, Grace Harrison 10, Jordan Stephens 6, Carrie Milner 10, and Zoie Magri 5. The girlÕs next game is November 10th at Appleton.

Lynx Teams Off to a Fast Start
    Nov 04 2009

Both the boys and girls basketball teams got off to a good start for the 2009 season by posting wins over Searsport Middle School yesterday. In the early game the visiting Lynx girls team easily handled the Vikings by a score of 49 to 14. The boys followed in similar fashion with a 35 to 14 win.

Carrie Milner got the girls got off to a fast start scoring six points and dominating the glass in the first quarter, where the Lynx took a commanding 14-0 lead. Little changed in the second quarter where Grace Harrison picked up six points and as many rebounds. By the end of the first half Lincolnville enjoyed a 33-4 advantage. The girls focused on defense in the second half as they went into a 2-3 zone that allowed Searsport just twelve points in the half. Annie Young tallied six points in the third quarter, and Marissa Libby scored all eight of the team's fourth quarter points. Team totals were: Hannah Bode 2, Annie Young 10, Jaclyn Gilson 2, Marissa Libby 13, Grace Harrison 10, Carrie Milner 10, Jordan Stephens 2. Total 49.

Max Bryant lead all scorers in the boys game with seventeen points, three more than the entire Searsport team. Like the girls, the boy's team held their opponent scoreless in the first quarter leading 8-0 after eight minutes of play. They also held a 16-4 edge at the half. Searsport came alive offensively in the third quarter scoring eight of their fourteen points, but the Lynx countered with fifteen of their own. Both teams traded baskets in a sloppy fourth quarter scoring four points each. Totals for the team were: Alex Copeland 2, Ben Rollins 2, Wyatt Parra 2, Colt Muir 4, Max Bryant 17, Brandon Benson 2, Nate Williams 2, Alex Carver 2, Jonathan Bryant 2. Total 35.
